【miho kajioka 「have you ever listened to the scent of flowers blooming from peacock islands?」@gallery G + VINCENT&MIA, Hiroshima】

Starting Tuesday, July 14 next month, gallery G in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture will host an exhibition by Paris-based artist miho kajioka: "have you ever listened to the scent of flowers blooming from peacock islands?"

The "Peacocks Project," launched in 2025 as a life project that intersects, resonates, and creates with meaningful places and people, held its first edition at VAGUE KOBE in Kobe — a city marking the 30th anniversary of the Great Hanshin Earthquake — under the direction of Gallery NAO MASAKI. This second edition unfolds in Hiroshima, as the city reaches the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing.

Kajioka's photographs quietly guide us toward emotions that words cannot fully express and memories that refuse to fade. Please experience this journey across memory and sensation as you visit two venues within Hiroshima city.

For the first three days beginning Tuesday, July 14, the artist will travel from Paris to be present at the gallery. On Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th, a collaboration event with Niida Honke will also be held at the second venue, VINCENT & MIA. We look forward to welcoming many visitors.

miho kajioka

Born in Okayama Prefecture in 1973; based in Paris. She studied painting and photography in San Francisco and Montreal, then worked in photojournalism in Tokyo after returning to Japan. The Great East Japan Earthquake prompted her to resume her art practice. In 2016 she published the photobook And, where did the peacocks go?, weaving together the memories of people and places she encountered while covering the disaster. In 2019, her photobook So it goes became the first by a Japanese artist to receive the Prix Nadar, France's prestigious annual prize awarded to the finest photobook published in the country. She continues to present her work primarily in Europe and the United States while dividing her time between Japan and Paris.
