Ante Vojnovic (1942 - )

Artist

Born in 1942 on the west coast of France, he has lived in Japan since 1997. Spent his childhood in the Maghreb (North Africa), where his imagination was nurtured on farms, in the wilderness and in the desert, and at the age of 18 volunteered for the army and sailed around the world as a submarine engineer. He then worked as a cook and fashion accessory designer before becoming a sculptor in 1975.

He manipulates light as a 'fluid' in his work. Sometimes he skillfully constrains it, other times he completely unleashes it. His works are constructed as mixed sculptures with light through the medium of "water", "wind", "stone", "white" and "moment", and are in equilibrium with the space left behind. His work has been exhibited in Sapporo JR Tower Public Art, Mitsubishi Jisho Artium (Fukuoka), Daikanyama Hillside Forum, Maru Cube installation at Marunouchi Building and many other venues.
