Michiko Iwata (1956 - )

Sculptor

Born 1956 in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. After graduating from Ritsumeikan University, studied drawing and etching at art studios in England and Italy. Produces boxes and objects mainly made of wood and paper. Her works, made with layers of paint, collages of old paper and parts, give a sense of nostalgia and her unique world view.

1979 Graduated from Ritsumeikan University, Faculty of Industrial Sociology

         Worked part-time at a graphic design office in Kokura.

1982-83 Studied drawing and copperplate engraving at art studios in the UK and Italy

1993 Selected for the Tokyo Franco-Japonaise Poster Original Drawing Competition

2001 First solo exhibition at Gallery Klammer, Tokyo

         Since then, exhibited work in solo and group shows in various locations.

2010 Atelier exchange with a French artist for two months, creating works from discarded and used objects.
