BANKO archive design museum in Yokkaichi, Mie, marked its 10th anniversary on November 27. Since opening in 2015 on the first floor of the Banko Industrial Hall in Yokkaichi, the museum has cast a light on the “color and form = design” of Banko ware, building an archive and sharing it within the contexts of industrial history and everyday life.
To celebrate this milestone, our gallery artist Mitsugu Sato is taking part in the commemorative sales event. After years of traveling, Sato is now based in Wakayama, where he gathers drifted objects and materials that have outlived their original roles to create his works. Nets, pieces of wood, and fragments of metal, in his hands, acquire “layers of time” and are reborn as singular pieces. His practice returns our gaze to what stands at the edge of forgetting and quietly renews the sensibilities of daily life. We hope you will encounter Sato’s new works in this festive setting shaped by a decade of the museum’s activity.
These forms, which reconnect the time inscribed in materials, bring a quiet shift to everyday life. If you are out and about toward the end of the year, please stop by.
