Junpei Omori (1979 - )
Ceramic artist
Born in 1979, he studied ceramics at Kyoto Seika University’s Faculty of Art. He was profoundly struck by seeing a Jomon flame-style pottery piece in a museum, which led him to begin creating works themed around the Jomon period. In 2010, he won first place in the public vote for the Montblanc Young Patronage Award and held a solo exhibition at the Montblanc flagship store in Ginza. In 2012, he participated in an artist residency in Denmark, where his work was added to the collection of the Denmark Keramik Museum. That same year, he represented Japan at ASIA WEEK NY 2012 and was featured on the front page of a New York newspaper.
In 2019, he held a solo exhibition titled JOUMON: Resurrection & Re-creation at Gallery NAO MASAKI in Nagoya, and also participated in Art Barsel in Switzerland. His work has been increasingly recognized both in Japan and internationally. In recent years, in addition to the Jomon theme, his practice has expanded to incorporate a personal view on life and death, shaped by his own experience of battling a serious illness and undergoing organ removal.
