Born 1957, Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Presides over Galerie Momogusa. Ceramic artist and sculptor. Graduated from Musashino Art University, Department of Sculpture. After working as a contemporary artist, he moved into pottery production. Produces more than 1,000 types of standard everyday tableware for both Japanese and Western use, as well as tea ceremony utensils and sculptural works. His 2018 book 'The Craft of Neither' contains a discussion of his work and an essay on his 36-year career in ceramics.”When I digested the work which include the perspective of the outside of crafts, my works changed as if it was in the element. " Ando's work is driven by a curiosity that easily transcends the boundaries of other fields, such as art, music and design. At Galerie Momogusa, which he runs, he displays and introduces not only his own vessels and produced crafts, but also ancient and modern crafts, antiques and art in all directions, making use of old private houses. He is also expanding his presentation to overseas and proposes a new tea ceremony and Chinese tea.
